So recently, I’ve been getting a lot of stress from school. It sucks, let me tell you that. It’s even worse when it’s your GCSE year!
There are methods of coping with exam stress, and then there are the things I’m doing. I’m hopefully going to let you know about three things not to do, because it doesn’t help at all, I know from experience.
1) Leave everything until the last minute.
Why I do it:
I feel like I have no motivation to do it when I first get it, such as homework for example.
Why you deffo shouldn’t do it:
Leaving everything until the last minute not only makes you paranoid, it means it can’t be done to the best of your ability. It is better to do it now and get it out of the way whilst you can, then you needn’t worry!
2) Work myself up about nonsense.
Why I do it:
Because of all the stress, I’ve found myself more emotional. Whilst it’s good to show my emotions, I get worked up about school work and things what aren’t up to standard.
Why you deffo shouldn’t do it:
Becoming worked up only makes you become more stressed. You’ve got time to fix things and it’s no good working yourself up about something when you could be using that time to sort it!
3) Not revising.
Why I do it:
I don’t revise simply because I can’t find a method that works for me, and because I lose motivation.
Why you deffo shouldn’t do it:
Not revising can make you feel paranoid about whether you know things or not. It’s good to find methods that work for you by trying out lots of different ways of working. Even just reading your notes can help you!
Hopefully this helped some of you out there that are currently worrying that you do the same. I certainly will be changing my ways in the next few weeks as my mock exams approach me!
Jess :)
