If there’s one thing you can enjoy over summer, it’s spending quality time with your best friends and
what better way to do that than by going to the cinema? With some long-awaited releases finally
hitting the big screen, film fans will not be disappointed. I’ve put together my top six films to make
your decision just that little bit easier on your next cinema visit this summer.
The Incredibles 2 (PG)
For many of us, The Incredibles was a huge part of our childhood and after 14 years away, our favourite superheroes are back! We follow the Parr family as they pick up where they left off and face their newest enemy: the screenslaver. With the return of our favourite characters (not forgetting Honey), there’s no doubt you big kids will love this film just as much as the first.
Mission: Impossible - Fallout (12A)
With raving reviews from around the world, Mission Impossible has managed to succeed once again. The sixth instalment sees Ethan Hunt on his latest mission to prevent a nuclear attack with the help of his team. This fast-paced action film will leave you on the edge of your seat and is perfect for Bond fans too!
Ant-Man and The Wasp (12A)
This film is a definite must for all of you Marvel fans out there, adding a much more light-hearted spin on the typical superhero movies we know and love. Though fairly underrated in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Ant-Man and The Wasp make a killer team in this new film as they pair up against the Ghost. Keep an eye out for those credits scenes too!
Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again (PG)
After the original feel-good musical’s success ten years ago, Mamma Mia has finally returned, gracing us with more Abba hits and spontaneous dances that we can’t help but love. The film follows a young Donna trying to find her feet after university, meeting Sam, Bill and Harry along the way. With moments of laughter, sadness and Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan and Stellan Skarsgard singing along to Dancing Queen, what more could you ask for in a film? (Oh yes, did I mention Cher?)
Christopher Robin (PG)
You’d be lying if you said you didn’t fall in love with Winnie The Pooh from a very young age and now, we get to fall in love with the silly old bear and his friends all over again in Disney’s latest live action adventure. If you’re looking for that feeling of nostalgia, or simply that feeling of magic Disney never fails to create, then this is the one for you.
The Darkest Minds (12A)
We’ve had some big YA film adaptations over the years - from Twilight to The Maze Runner - and The Darkest Minds is yet another addition to the ongoing list. Yes, it may not be anything new but it’s definitely one to watch, especially for those of you who loved the books by Alexandra Bracken.
You better get your popcorn at the ready because you don’t want to be missing any of these!
